ONLINE COUNSELLING
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

Hello, Are you thinking about online counselling?
I don’t know how much you know about counselling so what follows are some notes on how this could work, either by email or by live chat using MSN or similar.
COUNSELLING BY INSTANT MESSENGER CHAT
We would normally make an appointment to meet on line. Each session would be one hour long.
COUNSELLING BY EMAIL
. My reply to your first email and any short "admin" type emails are free of charge

EMAILS can be exchanged in two ways in our online counselling.
- you may want to write to me as often as you like, knowing I will respond to all your emails on a set day each week.
- Or you may want me to respond to each email as I receive it. I will normally reply to emails within three working days and will let you know if this is not possible i.e. holidays etc.
.
I like to use “Safe-Mail” which is a free, easy to download and install, encrypted email program downloadable free from www.safe-mail.net . This gives us both security from hackers in cyber space.
Would you be happy to down load and use these programs? I am however happy to look at any encrypted email programs that you think you would be more comfortable with.
Is your own computer is secure? Is it password protected for instance? Do other people have access to your computer? If you are not working from your personal password protected computer, then our confidentiality may be affected if , for instance, you are working from an Internet Cafe or a networked computer at your place of work or if other people have access to your computer at home
Online counselling is not suitable for every one and every situation. For instance, if you are in crisis you may wish to contact the Samaritans on www.samaritans.org or www.befrienders.org who can offer a crisis support service on line. If during the course of working together we come to believe that face to face counselling would be more appropriate, then I will endeavour to help you find a counsellor nearer to you and support you whilst you make the initial contact.
I hope this has answered some of questions you might have but if there are other questions or concerns of any sort, I would be more than happy to discuss them with you.
