SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COUNSELLING
Q. What will happen in the first session.
A. The first session is our opportunity to get to know each other and for you to tell me your story and concerns. It also gives us an opportunity to discuss our Working Arrangements(see below) and whether you feel this suits you. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about counselling and how it will proceed.
Q. What are the terms of the Working Arrangements?
A. The Working Arrangement is an agreement between you and me about how we will work together. It talks about our confidentiality, the cost and possibly the number of sessions you will have. It may be that you and I may agree on an initial number of sessions but if you feel it necessary we can recontract to work together for a longer period. Each session will last for 50 minutes and typically would be held once a week, but we can discuss what best meets your needs at our first session.
Q. What is expected of me?
A. It is your responsibility to be available at the agreed appointment time. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please inform me as soon as possible, at least 24 hours before the agreed appointment time or the full fee will be charged.
Q. How do I end counselling before our working arrangements end?
A. There may well be times when for one reason or another you may need to terminate counselling before the agreed number of sessions has been completed. If possible, speak to me about your situation so that we can arrive at a good, agreed ending.
